Mission Statement

The Association of Sustainable Transportation Researchers (ASTR) is an independent, interdisciplinary association of researchers and practitioners dedicated to advancing scholarship and practice in support of a sustainable, equitable, and climate-resilient transportation system.

Our mission is to:

  • Support rigorous, independent research across academic, public, and private sectors

  • Facilitate the exchange of ideas, data, and methods that inform just and effective transportation systems

  • Provide a forum for collaboration and mentorship across sectors, disciplines, career stages, and perspectives

  • Convene conferences, working groups, and public dialogues to engage with pressing transportation challenges

  • Uphold scientific integrity, open inquiry, and academic freedom in transportation research and providing independent data-driven analysis to support policy decisions
